  hm...you don't have the option of a sony vaio, huh? that's a shame. i'm not crazy about compaq, myself--they always used to use stupid, proprietary stuff, like drive rails of all things.
  
  i know little about acer--they don't have much presence in the US but i understand they're huge in asia.

  Sony vaio here in the Philippines is sooo expensive. Yup, here in the Philippines, most computers are now bundled with Vista nowadays and with a greater cost. Such a shame because as a programmer, I would really like to be given the freedom of being able to choose the OS that I would like to use.
  
  Acer is quite huge in asia specially in our country.
  
  I was thinking 3 years at most. My last laptop lasted for about 5 years.
