The page you were looking for no longer exists

Are there movies that really don't have a life expectancy for your viewing? Not ones you've seen twice, but ones you might dig out on a regular basis. The kind if you run across them on tv you can't surf away from?

These are some for me:

Of the somewhat newer ones, I've seen Man on Fire five times and I'm going to buy it.

The Long Kiss Goodnight. Geena Davis and Samuel Jackson were great in this thriller.

Point of No Return with Bridget Fonda, a remake of Nikita.

The Professional with Jean Reno and Gary Oldman

Dog Day Afternoon. The great Pacino in one of the greatest movies.

The Magnificent Seven. On tv last weekend for the forty-ninth view.

Only one of these (dog day afternoon) is one of my favorite movies of all time. I just can't get tired of these movies.

Do you have some you don't tire of?

    Well, being as it's Christmas season, I have several that come to mind:

    1) It's a Wonderful Life - i never get tired of seeing this movie!!!
    2) Christmas Story - 'you'll shoot your eye out kid!'
    3) The Bells of Saint Mary's - Bing Crosby & Ingrid Bergman
    4) The Bishop's Wife - Cary Grant, Loretta Young, David Niven

    Other ones that come quickly to mind --- I've seen The Wizard of Oz at least 100 times.  And Gone With The Wind probably 50.

    No not anymore. I hate to see the same movie twice but once up on a time I could watched movies over and over again. I saw Blue Hawaii with Elvis 8 times when I was 16 and I knew all the songs.

    There were other kids of movies like Exodus that I saw often. Lawrence of Arabia and so many. Old movie called Oh my darling Valentine. It was made my birth year  and of course when I was a child Peter Pan. I also did not want to grow up but I did.

    I have a whole list of films that I loved and watched over and over and know off by heart,
    when I was little it was sound of music, then it was dirty dancing, then heathers and chances are.
    then while you were sleeping, then 13 going on 30 and most recently...just like heaven :-)

    I could happily watch all of those over and over again still!! :-) xx

    Yay, secret!  It's A Wonderful Life!  I just showed it to my friend Dana today.  She had never seen it before.  And I just watched it a couple of months ago.  I own the DVD and I will never get tired of seeing that movie.  Yep, Christmas Story is one I could (and do) watch over and over.  Some others:

    * The Wizard of Oz
    * Miracle of 34th Street
    * Doctor Zhivago
    * The Incredible Mr. Limpet
    * Bell Book and Candle
    * Harvey
    * Cry Baby
    * Hair
    * Narnia

    i can watch all things star wars, firefly or LOTR-related ad nauseum, although unfortunately for her, the rmrs can't say the same. :D

    i would put kevin spacey's performance in the usual suspects near the top of my list, though: ditto, ewan macgregor in moulin rouge.

    Theres no movies I'd want to see over and over.  I have a hard time watching the same movie twice in the span of a few years.  Basically, if I can remember anything about it, I'd rather not watch it again.  I have a hard time sitting still for over an hour and if I know the plot, it just makes it boring for me.
  • GracefullyGrowing said on Dec 04, 2007....
    I love watching certain movies over and over again.  It seems to me that of these certain ones I get something new out of them, make some new connection in the story line, or see something I've not noticed before.  Some I watch over and over simply because they have created some feeling inside that I wish to feel again. My favorites are . . .

    ~ "The Matrix" Trilogy
    ~ "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy (Extended edition!)
    ~ "What Dreams May Come"
    ~ "City of Angels"
    ~ "Paradise Road"
    ~ "The Color Purple"
    ~ Star Trek "Insurection"
    ~ "Pay it Forward"
    ~ "Men of Honor"
    ~ "The Devil's Advocate"

    Sitting here wondering what my silly choices mean....

    The Cutting Edge
    Jerimiah Johnson
    Steel Magnolias
    Road House
    The Day After Tomorrow
    I Robot

    I think I just like to relax with something mindless, but good, that keeps me entertained without thinking very much.  I like action, romance, and colorful characters.
  • kelly said on Dec 04, 2007....
    Road House?  Isn't that Patrick Swayze?  I worked on the photo shoot doing the stills of him on the set of the road house itself.  I have never seen the movie, however.  If I'd know you were a fan I'd have gotten an autograph.  :-)
  • kelly said on Dec 04, 2007....
    Oh, by the way, 2001: A Space Odyssey is one I can watch on a regular basis and still be fascinated by.

    I have another favorite called K2 that I can watch every year because it's a great story about the bond between two guys, plus I can totally relate to the subject matter.  :-)
  • ninjapirate said on Dec 04, 2007....
    My brother and I saw Fight Club at least three times when it first came out in theaters, still need to buy it, but I'll definetly watch it whenever i can.  Another is Forrest Gump when I see it on t.v, it just doesn't get old to me, in fact same goes for Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

    anyway--yes, Patrick Swayze.  My story with this is that I was in New Orleans at an outdoor cafe with a band playing.   They said it was a band that was the band currently making a movie called  "Road House."

    At the time I thought nothing of it, as I did not know the movie......

    But now I know I got to listen to the band live that played in the movie....

    You must have some cool job....I am jealous!

    And I would have loved an autograph from Patrick Swayze!

    secret- A Christmas Story is one neat movie, but last year I had to take a break from it after so many years in a row. However, it still stands as my favorite Christmas movie. Has anyone seen The Wizard of Oz only once- anyone at all?

    skald- I learned from our kids, that kids can watch the same movie indefinitely. I think we watched Care Bears one or two hundred times. I was humming the songs at work.

    des- Hey, why don't you pull those out when you're feeling down? It might help.

    kruu- I saw Narnia when it came out- neat movie. I haven't seen Bell Book & Candle in a loooong time. Maybe I should rent that from flickr.

    Ed- I pull Firefly off my shelf quite often. My wife is the same as yours about sci-fi, but did enjoy three of the series. And my daughter agrees with you about The Usual Suspects.

    lampshade- I have a best friend that's just like you- if he's seen it, there's no reason to see it again. But many are so much fun to me, I can't help myself.

    grace- I think you described why people watch movies over- its the feeling they want back. My wife loves Lord of the Rings.

    wombat- I can relate to action. Did you notice all of mine were action, and some quite violent. Jeremiah Johnson was super.

    kelly- I saw Road House twice. I've liked everything Patrick Swayze has been in.

    ninja- I have that problem of running into movies on tv and can't change channels. Speed is another that catches me. It seems like Star Wars is always on tv.

    I love going to the movies as well as watching them at home.  Some of my favorites I never seem to tire of watching are:

    The Godfather I, II and III
    Father of the Bride I and II
    How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days
    Mr. Holland's Opus
    Steel Magnolias
    Gone with the Wind
    Pay it Forward
    White Christmas
    Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation
    Home Alone I and II

    Oh, the list could go on and on.  I love the old movies too and there are so many classics that are wonderful to watch and too many to name!!
  • hotaka said on Dec 05, 2007....
    I love Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.

    I can watch the first two Alien movies anytime and Star Wars: A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back are long time favs. After that it becomes hard to think of any though there are plenty of movies I can watch again and again given a sufficient passage of time.

    Oh, BorntoShop mentioned Mr. Holland's Opus. I loved that movie and could watch it again.

    I guess Grand Canyon is another one I really like. And Dead Poet's Society.

    And I haven't seen Pink Floyd's The Wall for a long time and I want to see it again, maybe even buy it.

    borntoshop- My wife gets ditzy over Father of the bride. Christmas Vacation is a real hoot. I've seem that several times also.

    hotaka- I don't know why I haven't seen the Guy Ritchie films. Dead Poets Society was great. I saw it twice shortly after it was released. I've always wondered how they 'settle down' Robin Williams enough to make a serious movie but he's super in them.

    quiet- Ah, Pretty Woman- maybe four times for me. Sixth Sense was a terrific movie and Ghost is one of my favorites.

    moyz- Strangely, the only one I've seen is unfaithful, but that happens often. Unfaithful was very good.

    mimi- Blazing Saddles was hilarious and I've seen numerous times, but League of Their own I've seen more. This was a movie that affected me, I treasure the thoughts it left me with and certainly will see it again.

  • RollingC said on Dec 05, 2007....
    I've started my own collection or library of movies on DVDs. and unfortunately it drives my wife crazy as she's the kind that doesn't like to see a movie more than once as she doesn't enjoy seeing something that she knows how it's going to end.
    Oh well....to each his own.  Since I've learned to copy the DVDs my collection is growing bit by bit.
    Got one more to go for a complete Star Wars series and ditto for some of the other action movies.  :>)

  • silverwhisper said on Dec 05, 2007....
    oo, hotaka mentioned one of my all-time faves, dead poets society. i need to get that on DVD...

    beyond, my daughter was an athlete all through school, and her sport was softball.  the first time I saw this movie was with her, and she had just finished her college career.  We both sobbed our eyes out.  It's a wonderful movie.
  • beyondtheveil said on Dec 05, 2007....
    CW- When you mentioned John Wayne westerns, one of my many watched movies is The Searchers. I love that movie. I haven't seen the Johnny Depp movie, must see that.

    blast- You mentioned one of mine and Dune is one I've seen three times. I saw Seabisquit once, but read the book twice. The greatest book in it's genre ever.

    rolling- Most of my movies are on vhs. Will a dvd recorder copy vhs tapes if they are  hooked together?  I have a dvd player only and must someday make copies.

    Ed- That movie was super and I need a copy for my collection.

    mimi- That is so neat getting to see it with your daughter. Remember the line "there's no crying in baseball!!"
  • hotaka said on Dec 05, 2007....
    Yes, In a League of Their Own is another fav and I too love that line, "There's no crying in baseball!" Sometimes when I play musical chairs at the kindergartens and some kids cries because she didn't get a seat I want to say, "There's no crying in musical chairs!"
