I was just watching a tv show about the big bang, and it started talking about the early astrologers, Copernicus, Kepler, Brahe, then Newton. It referred to astrology as dogma and superstition. It didn't say that those early astrologers were astrologers. It called them astronomers. It pretended that those heroes of generations past were not astrologers. It pissed me off. The pompousness, the arrogance, of these pseudo scientists pissed me off. Because all their early heroes were astrologers, and these nothings lie about it. They are lies of omission.

When Isaac Newton was challenged by Halley (the comet guy) on astrology, Newton responded "I have studied the subject, you silly prick, and you haven't." Yes, I admit I have paraphrased his reply, but it was essentially as written.

And when someone these days ridicules astrology simply because newspaper astrology is deserving of that ridicule, my reaction is to say what Newton said to Halley. I also did a controlled experiment that proved mathematically that there is something to astrology.

I agree with you, there is something to astrology.

I have a problem with "religion" - and some use astrology as such.  I'm thinkin' that's not a good idea - but that's just me.

Astrology is most useful, IMO, for personality discernment.

If you are interested in using astrology for the purpose of telling you what astrological forces are at work in your life from day to day, I suggest a book called Planets In Transit by Robert Hand, but in order to use it you must have your birth chart and an ephemeris telling you where the planets are each day, and you must know just a little bit about how to identify your aspects.

I have just recently begun leaning about astrology.  So recently, in fact, I don't really know yet what I want to do with it.  I'm not even seeing the full potential of it all.

I do have my birth chart, and I'm in the process of learning what all the aspects mean - just to be able to make sense of how to read it.  Understanding the symbols, if you will.

I'm such a NOOB!  I'm willing to learn, and thank you for the book recommendation!

There definitely is something to astrology.  It is one science that dates back to early beginnings of the bible.

i believe in astrology also, and i'm not just talking about signs and compatability, the positions of the moon and the earth affect how we live...

The sun is the circle with a dot in it. The moon is obvious. Mercury is a circle with a cross under it and a semi circle on top of its head. Venus is like Mercury except without the hat, just a circle with a cross under it. Mars is a circle with an arrow coming out of it pointing up and to the right. Jupiter is sort of like a stylized 4. Saturn is complicated. Uranus is like an H with a child's swing hanging from the crossbar, the H being for Herschell, the guy who discovered it. Neptune is like a trident. Pluto is just a stupid P L thing.

Aries is a ram's horn. Taurus is a big fat circle with a hat. Gemini is Roman number II. Cancer is a lying down 69 as in the sex symbol or the Buddhist thing. Leo is loops. Virgo is a little m with a line through the end of it. Libra is scales. Scorpio is just like Virgo except it has a stinger at the end. Sag is an arrow. Cap is complicated. Aquarius is two squiggles to represent water. Pisces is like a curved H.

It's just a bunch of numbers. To find out what it all means you would have to start buying books.

You're thinking astronomy, not astrology.  Astrology is a pseudo-science at best though I think of it as a harmless hobby for most.  One lady I work with tells me that I should have narrow shoulders and wide hips.  I have average hips when a normal weight and my shoulders are broad.  She also talks about channeling spirits through her friends for advice on my housing situation, though I am not looking for another place to live.  I will buy my own apartment once I save the money and plan on getting another job to do so.  Most of the predictions never come true.

I am just curious, desertsienna2 --Did you read the entire post before you commented?  Starting with the original post entitled --Astrology by  lfbno7.

" It didn't say that those early astrologers were astrologers. It called them astronomers. It pretended that those heroes of generations past were not astrologers."  (I cut and pasted this from lfbno7's post so you could see it closer.)

Astrology isn't a pseudo science but most of it is a pile of crap all the same. The newspaper predictions are absolute nonsense. You can't really blame people for thinking that astrology is a worthless pseudo science because popular astrology is just pure nonsense. But there is more to it than that. You must look deeper to find it. There are some excellent books on the subject, including anything by Grant Lewi, and the Robert Hand book Planets In Transit. All of those famous astronomers in your school textbooks WERE astrologers and weren't phony about it, they actually believed in it, and why shouldn't they, considering that there is truth in astrology. When you knock astrology you are tangling with Isaac Newton, one of the most brilliant minds of all time, and don't even bother trying to make the argument that he was falling for the nonsense of his day. He was a brilliant man who defended astrology against the naysayers of his day. Don't be condescending to astrology. Those who can't find truth in it are those who haven't looked for it. Astrology is a true science, just in its infancy. It's so damn complicated that it is hard to make heads or tails of it. But anyone who hasn't looked deeply into it does not have the right to comment on it. If you are ignorant about astrology, all you can truthfully say is that you are ignorant about astrology and leave it at that.
